Accretion corona

A hot, comparatively optically thin <plasma> region associated with an <accretion> flow. Thermal or nonthermal electrons can transfer <energy> to softer seed <photons> through <inverse Compton scattering>, producing a harder radiation component. Its geometry, heating and coupling to the cooler disc are model dependent; a hard <radiation spectrum> alone does not uniquely determine these properties.
