= Activity-dependent ocular dominance segregation
Two eye-specific afferent populations compete under <Hebbian learning> and <synaptic normalization>. In a simplified symmetric two-eye model, the eye-difference mode $d_a=w_{aL}-w_{aR}$ evolves with a linear operator containing $K_{ab}(C_{\rm same}-C_{\rm cross})_{ab}$. Dominant spatial modes can produce alternating eye preference, while saturation sets finite contrast. The interaction width, arbor constraints and correlation structure influence the column scale. This is a mechanistic hypothesis whose predictions can be tested, not a unique inference from the existence of columns.
