A <field-squared quadrature> <variance> below the equal-variance coherent-state reference in this normalization. Its conjugate <variance> must remain compatible with the state-dependent <commutator> bound. This is not the same observable as ordinary field-amplitude squeezing or a reduction of mean intensity.
