Antiplane shear has displacement normal to a plane and independent of that normal coordinate. In an isotropic linear elastic body, $\sigma_{13}=\mu w_{,1}$ and $\sigma_{23}=\mu w_{,2}$, together with their symmetric partners, are the only nonzero <stress tensor> entries. Static balance without <body force> reduces to the <Laplace equation> for $w$.
