A <bond length> describes the separation of the <atomic nuclei> of two bonded <chemical atoms>. Distinguish an equilibrium geometry from an instantaneous or experimentally averaged separation. Methods of determining <molecular geometry> can use different averaging conventions, so reported <bond lengths> need their measurement context. See the https://goldbook.iupac.org/terms/view/BT07003[IUPAC Gold Book: bond length]. Changing a <bond length> is one possible <reaction coordinate>.
