<C. T. R. Wilson> developed the <cloud chamber> method for making <ionization> tracks visible. Expansion cools moist <gas> into a supersaturated state, allowing droplets to condense on ions left by a charged particle. Illumination and photography then turn an invisible passage into a track whose bends, endpoints and branches can be measured. His Nobel lecture traces the physical condensation mechanism and its use in examining ionizing radiation.<Nobel Lectures, Physics 1922–1941/On the Cloud Method of Making Visible Ions and the Tracks of Ionizing Particles by Charles Thomson Rees Wilson>[1927 lecture, pp. 194–201, expansion, ion-induced condensation and particle tracks]{ref}
