Cauchy approximate identity (source code)

= Cauchy approximate identity
{title2=$\delta_\varepsilon$}

The Cauchy approximate identity is
$$
\delta_\varepsilon(x)=\frac{\varepsilon}{\pi(\varepsilon^2+x^2)}.
$$
It is a <probability density> of total mass one, and its mass outside every fixed neighbourhood of zero tends to zero as $\varepsilon\to0$. It therefore converges to the <Dirac delta function> as a <distribution>.
