Arithmetic operations on <complex numbers>. Writing two inputs as $a+bi$ and $c+di$ turns multiplication into $(ac-bd)+(ad+bc)i$ and addition into $(a+c)+(b+d)i$. This is distinct from the specialized theory of <complex multiplication> of <elliptic curves>.
