= Cosmic chronometer

Cosmic chronometers infer the Hubble parameter from differential ages of passively evolving galaxies:
$$
H(z)=-\frac1{1+z}\frac{dz}{dt}.
$$
They probe $H(z)$ locally in redshift rather than through a distance integral.
