The <molecular point group> of a centrosymmetric linear <molecule>. Longitudinal coordinates have $\Sigma$ symmetry; their behaviour under inversion about the <inversion centre> supplies the $g$ or $u$ label, and a vertical reflection supplies the sign on a $\Sigma$ representation.
