Diabatic state
= Diabatic state
A basis state chosen to retain a useful electronic character, such as a localized charge arrangement, as the nuclei move. A <diabatic state> need not diagonalize the electronic <Hamiltonian>; off-diagonal coupling between such states produces the <adiabatic states>.
