A replicating <DNA polymerase> is an <enzyme> that extends a paired strand end with <nucleotides> selected against a <DNA> template. New <DNA> grows $5'\to3'$ while the template is read $3'\to5'$. <Base pairing> specifies the partner; the <DNA polymerase> catalyzes its incorporation.
