A coherent or fluctuating swirling region of a <velocity field>. <Eddies> transport <momentum>, <heat> and material constituents, and their averaged fluxes can modify a mean current. They need not be nonlinear: a linear <wave packet> can also have nonzero averaged quadratic fluxes.
