= Electromagnetic gauge symmetry

The unbroken local <gauge symmetry> associated with <electric charge> in the <Standard Model>. Its <gauge boson> is the massless <photon>. The neutral <Higgs field> vacuum preserves this subgroup while the W and Z acquire masses.
