Electrolytic purification by transferring the desired metal from an impure dissolving <anode> to a purer <cathode>. Impurities can stay dissolved, remain as solids or form precipitated <anode slime>. Potential control, transport and exclusion of solid contamination are as important as tabulated standard potentials.
