Exponential sum
= Exponential sum
A finite <sum> of <complex exponentials>, such as $S(\theta)=\sum_n a_ne(n\theta)$ with $e(t)=\exp(2\pi it)$, is an exponential sum. <Cancellation in an exponential sum> between its terms can make it much smaller than the <sum> of their <absolute values>.
