Ideal frame of a Boolean algebra 2026-10-14
The lattice ideals of a Boolean algebra form a frame under inclusion. Meets are intersections and joins are ideals generated by unions. A complemented ideal is principal: if and , choose with ; then and . This ideal frame defines an extremally disconnected locale exactly when is complete.

The Booleanization of a locale is the sublocale with double-negation nucleus. A flat sublocale has a nucleus preserving finite joins, equivalently its fixed-element set is closed under ambient finite joins. For completeness, if a nucleus preserves finite joins then its fixed points are closed under them. Conversely, if fixed points are closed under joins, is fixed and bounds , giving ; monotonicity gives equality, and preservation of is precisely . Since , condition (iv) is exactly (iii). Together the preceding implications prove all four characterizations of an extremally disconnected locale.
