Applied Spectroscopy57(11),1317–1323, November2003. Publisher and author manuscript explicitly credit David W.McCamant, Philipp Kukura and Richard A.Mathies. Introduction and Figure1 distinguish the narrowband Raman pump from the broadband short probe and discuss spectral resolution. Materials and Methods, Instrumentation/Figure2, describes spectrally filtered pump light near793nm, a sapphire-generated continuum, spectrograph and dual-diode-array probe/reference detection; cyclohexane gain bands provide a non-biological physical-spectroscopy example. Data Collection, equation4, forms a dark-corrected, reference-normalized pump-on/pump-off gain ratio.

Equation 4 uses reference-normalized gain. These acquisition constraints must be respected when applying an ideal photon or exposure-time allocation model.]
Data Collection specifies a 97 ms detector exposure containing 97 probe/reference pulse pairs, followed by 10 ms readout with detector-exposure shutter S2 closed. Raman-pump shutter S1 switches state during readout, producing alternating pump-on/off exposures. These simultaneous probe/reference measurements constrain exposure allocation in pairs; live exposure time excludes the closed-shutter readout. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1475739/[Data Collection, paragraphs preceding equation 4]{ref}
