Dark absorption features in the solar <spectrum>, mapped and labelled by <Joseph von Fraunhofer>. They give reproducible wavelength landmarks for <spectroscopy> and optical measurements. Solar and terrestrial absorbers contribute different features to a ground-observed solar spectrum.
