The <Fresnel equations> give reflection and transmission amplitudes for both transverse-electric and transverse-magnetic <polarization of an electromagnetic wave> at a planar interface. They follow by applying <interface conditions for electromagnetic fields> to incident, reflected and refracted <plane electromagnetic waves>.
