A <FRET acceptor> receives the <excited state> <energy>. Its absorption must support <FRET spectral overlap> with the <FRET donor>. <FRET sensitized emission> requires a fluorescent <FRET acceptor>; measuring a shortened <FRET donor lifetime> does not.
