= Fringe shift

A <fringe shift> measures a change of relative <phase> between interfering waves in units of a full fringe spacing. A changing optical path difference $\Delta\ell$ gives a shift $\Delta N=\Delta\ell/\lambda$ for monochromatic <light>.
