The instrument manufacturer's explanation gives nominal <optical path difference> as reciprocal <spectral resolution element> width, and mirror travel as half that <optical path difference>. A resolution specification still requires distinguishing nominal resolution from the first-zero width of a symmetric rectangular scan.
