{c}
<G. R. Burbidge> co-developed the 1957 account of <stellar nucleosynthesis> with <E. Margaret Burbidge>, <William Alfred Fowler> and <Fred Hoyle>. The work distinguished <slow neutron-capture processes> from <rapid neutron-capture processes> by comparing <neutron capture> and radioactive-decay timescales.<Synthesis of the Elements in Stars by E. Margaret Burbidge and others>[Sections on slow and rapid neutron-capture synthesis]{ref}
That ordering matters because a nucleus can either capture another <neutron> or decay first, producing different paths through the <nuclides> and different final abundance patterns.
