A large planet whose bulk mass includes a substantial <hydrogen>–<helium> envelope, as in <Jupiter> and <Saturn>. The deep envelope is fluid rather than a dilute atmosphere with a sharp solid surface. Its cooling, compression and possible <electron degeneracy pressure> influence the <mass-radius relation>.
