The <Gaunt factor> is the dimensionless quantum correction to a classical free-free radiation calculation. Its weak temperature and frequency dependence modifies the approximate <thermal bremsstrahlung> scaling; a frequency-averaged value appears in the bolometric cooling coefficient.
