A geomagnetic reversal changes the large-scale polarity of Earth's intrinsic <magnetic field>. Crustal <remanent magnetization> records past reversals. The reversal times are not a regular clock; their occurrence reflects time-dependent <dynamo action> rather than rigid rotation of a permanent magnet.
