The Grad-Shafranov equation governs the poloidal magnetic flux of an axisymmetric magnetohydrostatic equilibrium. Pressure and toroidal-field contributions depend on the flux function. The Grad-Shafranov equation for a force-free magnetic field is its zero-pressure-gradient reduction.
