The graphical Stirling number $\left\{\begin{smallmatrix}n\\k\end{smallmatrix}\right\}_G$ counts partitions of the vertices of a graph $G$ into $k$ nonempty <independent sets>. Equivalently, it counts proper colourings with $k$ unlabeled nonempty colour classes.
