Hemiketal

A <hemiketal> is the addition product of an <alcohol> and a <ketone>, with <hydroxy group> and alkoxy substituents on the former <carbonyl> <carbon>. Intramolecular formation can temporarily tether an <alcohol> to a <ketone> before another <chemical reaction> changes the carbon skeleton.
