For <Lie algebra representations> $V$ and $W$, the Hom representation on $\operatorname{Hom}(V,W)$ is
$$
(x\cdot f)(v)=x\cdot f(v)-f(x\cdot v).
$$
Its invariant vectors are exactly the intertwining maps.
