Imaging in many narrow, usually adjacent wavelength bands. Relative to broad-band <multispectral imaging>, it can resolve narrower <mineral> absorption features in <spectral reflectance>, helping distinguish surface <lithologies>, at the cost of data volume and often reduced signal per band.
