An ice sheet is a large body of glacier ice covering land. Its mass budget combines accumulation, surface ablation, basal melting and discharge. Changes of floating <ice shelves> can influence discharge of grounded ice through changes in restraint, even though shelf melt itself has only a small direct sea-level contribution.
