{synonym}

<Infrared spectroscopy> measures a sample's response to <infrared> <electromagnetic radiation>. Absorption associated with stretching or bending motions of <chemical bonds> helps identify groups and their environments. Peak positions are commonly reported as reciprocal <wavelength>, in $\mathrm{cm^{-1}}$; a lower value means lower <frequency>. https://openstax.org/books/organic-chemistry/pages/12-6-infrared-spectroscopy[McMurry: infrared spectroscopy and its wavelength convention]{ref}
