Intermodal dispersion (source code)

= Intermodal dispersion

<Intermodal dispersion> is the temporal separation of components in different propagating <normal modes> because their <group velocities> differ. A pulse exciting several modes can therefore broaden even when its individual modal components have negligible bandwidth. It is distinct from <group velocity dispersion> within a single mode.
