Invariant (mathematics) 2026-10-13
An invariant is a property or quantity unchanged by a specified class of transformations. The transformations are part of the definition: an invariant of a group action and an invariant set of a measure-preserving transformation concern different transformation classes.
Positively invariant set Created 2026-09-24 Updated 2026-10-13
A set is positively invariant when every forward trajectory starting in it remains in it.
This is a dynamical example of an invariant; forward invariance and strict inward trapping are additional conditions.
Trapping region Created 2026-09-24 Updated 2026-10-14
A trapping region is a compact region across whose boundary the vector field points inward. It is positively invariant and confines every forward trajectory that enters it.
This is a dynamical example of an invariant; forward invariance and strict inward trapping are additional conditions.
