{synonym}

<Jack Steinberger> coauthored the experiment establishing a distinction between the <muon neutrino> and <electron neutrino>. A beam produced through meson decays generated predominantly <muons> in the detector rather than the expected electron showers for a single common neutrino type. Comparing the two interaction signatures made lepton identity experimentally testable.<Observation of High-Energy Neutrino Reactions and the Existence of Two Kinds of Neutrinos by G. Danby and others>[1962, beam preparation and observed muon reactions compared with electron-like events]{ref}

An experimental <physicist> who conducted neutrino-scattering research at CERN and was the first ALEPH spokesperson.<Professional profile of Jack Steinberger>[Independent professional identity]{ref}
