JavaFX PhongMaterial (source code)

= JavaFX PhongMaterial
{c}

<JavaFX PhongMaterial> is the JavaFX material class for local lighting based on the <Phong reflection model>. It combines diffuse and specular components, <color>[colors] and texture maps to determine a rendered surface's appearance. When a diffuse <color> and diffuse map are both supplied, their components multiply rather than one simply replacing the other.<PhongMaterial in the Oracle JavaFX 8 documentation>[class description and material properties]{ref}

For example, a green diffuse <color> tints an image texture green, while changing specular power changes highlight concentration. A high value produces a narrower highlight; it does not turn the object into a mirror of the surrounding scene. The official class documentation explicitly excludes environment-mirror behavior and <refraction> effects for this material. Consequently a glossy-looking object is an approximation supplied by a lighting model, not a simulation of every optical interaction.
