A researcher in optical physics whose team helped connect ultrafast lasers with precision frequency measurement. Their 2000 experiment stabilized the <carrier-envelope phase> of pulses from a <mode-locked laser>, controlling the absolute positions of the resulting <optical frequency comb>.
