<Julio F. Navarro>, with <Carlos S. Frenk> and Simon D. M. White, quantified a common density profile for simulated dark-matter haloes. Writing $x=r/r_s$, their <Navarro--Frenk--White profile> is
$$
\rho(r)=\frac{\rho_s}{x(1+x)^2}.
$$
It approaches $r^{-1}$ at small radii and $r^{-3}$ at large radii. Their 1997 work also connected characteristic halo <mass density> with assembly epoch.<A Universal Density Profile from Hierarchical Clustering by Julio F. Navarro and others>[Abstract and density-profile analysis]{ref}

A halo model needs a specified outer boundary when assigning total <mass>: the untruncated formula has logarithmically divergent integrated <mass>.
