For a pair $(X,A)$ of <CW complexes>, <relative topological K-theory> and <Bott periodicity> give the cyclic <exact sequence>
$$
K^0(X,A)\to K^0(X)\to K^0(A)\to K^{-1}(X,A)\to K^{-1}(X)\to K^{-1}(A)\to K^0(X,A).
$$
