A theoretical physicist who studied the foundations of <quantum mechanics>. In a 2000 proposal, he examined whether requiring an appropriate <classical limit> constrains the statistical interpretation of discrete quantum variables such as <spin>. The argument deliberately stopped short of a complete derivation: it did not establish the probability interpretation for continuous position variables. This makes the assumptions and limits of an interpretive proposal explicit.<Inferring the statistical interpretation of quantum mechanics from the classical limit by Kurt Gottfried>[Abstract: combined continuous/discrete system, classical-motion requirement and stated limitation]{ref}
