Lemma (botany)
= Lemma
{disambiguate=botany}
The <lemma (botany)> is the lower of the two <bracts> enclosing a <grass> <floret>; the upper is the <palea (botany)>.<Glossary of Botanical Terms by PlantNET>[I–L, lemma]{ref}
In a schematic three-<floret> <spikelet>, each <floret> can have its own <lemma (botany)> and <palea (botany)>, within the basal <glumes>. Counting each <lemma (botany)> and counting each <glume> therefore answer different structural questions.
