= Mac Lane exact sequence for a free presentation

For a free presentation $G=F/R$ and a $\mathbb ZG$-module $M$, restriction of derivations to $R$ gives an exact sequence
$$
H^1(F,M)\longrightarrow\operatorname{Hom}_G(R/[R,R],M)
\longrightarrow H^2(G,M)\longrightarrow0.
$$
It follows by applying $\operatorname{Hom}_{\mathbb ZG}(-,M)$ to the presentation relation sequence.
