A slender flexible body modeled by a moving curve that transmits <tension> while its bending stiffness is neglected. For a uniform stretched string with constant <tension> $T$ and <linear mass density> $\mu$, small transverse <oscillations> obey $\mu y_{tt}=Ty_{xx}$; see the <wave equation on a string>.
