A microemulsion is a thermodynamically stable mixture of immiscible <fluids> and surfactant with structure on a mesoscopic <length> scale. In a gradient theory, a negative square-gradient coefficient stabilized by a positive fourth-gradient term favors fluctuations at nonzero <wavevector>.
