Nevanlinna theory studies the growth and value distribution of <meromorphic functions> through their integrated pole counts and logarithmic proximity to target values. The <Nevanlinna characteristic> combines both quantities, while the <Nevanlinna first main theorem> compares it with the corresponding counts and proximity for any fixed target.
