The Nijenhuis tensor of an <almost complex manifold> is
$$
N_J(U,V)=[JU,JV]-J[JU,V]-J[U,JV]-[U,V].
$$
It measures the failure of the $(0,1)$ tangent distribution to be closed under the <Lie bracket>.
