An experimental <physicist> whose thin-film measurements helped motivate the theory of <type-II superconductors>. After changing the deposition procedure on <Alexander Shalnikov>'s advice, Zavaritskii found critical-field behavior that differed from the familiar limiting case of <Ginzburg-Landau theory>.
