Nonuniqueness of geophysical inversion
= Nonuniqueness of geophysical inversion
Different subsurface models can produce the same measured field. A <gravity anomaly>, for example, does not uniquely separate <density>, body shape and regional background. Geological constraints and complementary observations reduce this ambiguity; an inferred <density> should retain the model and reference-field assumptions used to obtain it.
